Paul Scholes has savaged Manchester United’s midfielders for their poor performance in the 2-1 defeat at Brighton.

The Manchester United icon posted his comments about United’s midfield on Monday morning
He said on Instagram: “Thoughts of the week ‘MDF’ is about body shape when he gets the ball, too many times facing his own goal and they can only play one way…
“Go ‘half lap’ for the hell of it and get your most talented players into the game…have a great week everyone,” followed by a thumbs-up emoji and the words “Red Army.”
His former team-mate, Red Devils icon and pundit Gary Neville, was quick to take to Twitter to joke: And on Instagram Scholesey’s cracked,” followed by a crying laughing emoji.
Speaking as an expert, legendary former midfielder Scholes (above) branded the pair ‘cancerous’
Working as a pundit, Scholes had raged at half-time: “It was a shocking start and the first half was really cheeky. The signs were there from the first few minutes that this was going to be bad. The quality in the middle off the pitch was really bad, not even good enough, but we’ve seen that over the last few years with these two.
“With Fred and McTominay … even one of them is probably too much. Fred gives the ball away all the time and McTominay tries to run with the ball constantly and then gives it away. Pass it on to your best players! It’s not so difficult. It’s criminal on a day like today.
Former United captain Roy Keane, who also played in midfield, also pointed the finger at McTominay and Fred, claiming the midfield duo would never be “good enough” to make “United compete again in the in front”.

Keane was furious with the result after the game and blamed United’s lack of quality in the middle of the park for their devastating defeat.
The Sky Sports pundit said: “The (lack of) decision-making and footballing intelligence in midfield, especially Fred.
“I’ve been saying it for a long time: Fred and (Scott) McTominay are not good enough. They’re not going to get Manchester United back to competing at the top. We see it week in and week out. They’re not up to it.”
