ATheir focus has shifted wildly from Marko Arnautovic to Adrien Rabiot in recent days, Manchester United’s The summer transfer strategy has started to look less and less strategic. In the words of Roy Keane on Sunday: “Oh my God. What’s going on?”
Having spent much of the summer working uselessly Frenkie de Jongtheir scramble for reinforcements in the middle of the park could end up landing them Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. United’s record of signing midfielders from Lazio is mixed, as Juan Sebastián Verón can demonstrate. Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, Sergej’s brother, was briefly on the books at Old Trafford, so at least they can get a decent character reference. However, he may not have the best memories of that period of his career, as he was unable to obtain a work permit and did not make an appearance at the club.
In Spain they seem to think that United would prefer to sign Guido Rodríguez from Real Betis, who will settle for no less than €25m (£21.1m) for the Argentina international. That’s just the three midfielders – four, if we’re still counting De Jong – chasing them at the moment.
In better news for United, they may have found a buyer Eric Bailly. According to The Team, Monaco they are willing to sign the injured defender. That’s where the good news ends, unfortunately. It seems like RB Leipzig United will win Benjamin Seskothe promising teenage striker playing as a marketing vehicle for energy drinks RB Salzburg.
Back to the topic of midfielders, Liverpool could be ready Marcelo Brozovic after the injuries of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago Alcântara. Inter do not want to sell their muscular enforcer, but could be tempted by an offer that includes Roberto Firmino or Naby Keïta.
In another part, West Ham have made inquiries about Thilo Kehrer as a possible replacement for the outgoing Issa Diop. Paris Saint-Germain want around £17m for the defender, who can play as a centre-back or full-back.
If David Moyes still hoped to add Filip Kostic in their ranks, then he will be disappointed. The Eintracht Frankfurt winger is about to pass Juventus who, in one of the strangest rumors of the day, are apparently considering whether to ask United Scott McTominay in exchange for Rabiot.
In the meantime, ChelseaThe frenzied supermarket sweep shows little sign of slowing down. They are £10m below Leicester’s valuation Wesley Fofana as things stand, while they are still pushing to sign De Jong and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. At least they should be able to download Timo Werner soon, if the doctors allow it. A return to Leipzig is closing in, with Chelsea set to recoup €20m (£16.9m) of their much larger original investment.
