Adrien Rabiot’s arrival could squeeze Man Utd star and give Premier League rivals the transfer they crave

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot

A Man Utd midfielder who has re-emerged as a target for an ambitious Premier League side could reportedly become an unwitting victim of Adrien Rabiot’s arrival.

There is a deal to sign the 27-year-old Juventus midfielder. Manchester United will pay an initial £15m with bonuses that could increase the cost to £18m. With this aspect of the transfer agreed, personal terms are currently being worked on.

Rabiot’s mother Veronique reportedly threw a spanner in the works on Wednesday when she settled her wage demands for her son. Veronique acts as Adrien’s agent and advisor.

The finer details of what salary level the Rabiots are looking for can be found here. Regardless, if Erik ten Hag is determined to bring the Frenchman into his ranks, United should have no problem cashing in.

Despite this, according to Sky Sportsthe arrival of Rabiot could have a secondary effect.

They claim a decision will be made on the future of rising talent James Garner once the Rabiot move is resolved one way or the other.

If a Rabiot deal collapses, common sense would dictate that Garner stay. However, all signs point to Rabiot becoming a Manchester United player and that could squeeze Garner.

Rabiot to push Garner back to Forest?

The 21-year-old excelled on loan with Nottingham Forest last year. He played a starring role in the engine room and was a big factor in helping Forest win promotion.

Reports earlier in the summer put Forest back in the mix to re-sign Garner on loan.

However, the loan route is no longer viable given Forest have already signed Dean Henderson from United on a temporary basis. Premier League rules prevent multiple players from the same club moving to another top team via the loan route.

As such, only a permanent arrangement can be achieved. heaven State Forest are interested in bringing the midfielder back on board.

Steve Cooper’s side have already landed 11 first-team players this summer. However, their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle on the opening day was an eye-opening experience. As such, additional arrivals remain high on the agenda.

Garner would not need bedding for the period given he played a full season at the City Ground last year. Forest are also known to be chasing midfield recruits given their interest in free agent Cheikhou Kouyate.

A number of big bids have also been made for Wolves’ Morgan Gibbs-White, thus proving they still have cash to splash.

If Rabiot were to join United, Ten Hag’s midfield would contain Fred, Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen, Donny van de Beek and Rabiot.

Frenkie de Jong can still arrive toomeaning Garner’s chances of getting regular game time at Old Trafford this year would be slim.

It adds weight to the story, the Daily Mail also reaffirmed Forest’s interest in re-signing the stylish Garner.

Man Utd facing a big decision

At 21, the biggest thing in Garner’s career right now is playing regularly. Although United did not sign De Jong, he is unlikely to feature regularly this season.

Instead, he would be assured of getting 90 minutes every weekend at the City Ground.

However, Garner clearly has a bright future and selling such a promising academy graduate is unlikely to go well.

So the question for United will be how much they value the player.

If they don’t think he has the tools to reach the top, it might make sense to cash in now while his stock is high.

Alternatively, his contract does not expire until 2024 and the club has an option for a further 12 months. As such, United are under no pressure to sell this summer. They could explore a loan move to a different club.
