Transfer gossip: City target Arsenal defender, Tottenham flop Man Utd

Kieran Tierney applauds Arsenal fans after the win at Crystal Palace.

A Wolves defender could also fill Pep Guardiola’s void at left-back, while Spurs are still sniffing around Memphis Depay despite reports of a move from Juve…

Manchester City are reportedly preparing to snap up a left-back from Arsenal after selling the only senior specialist they had on their books to the Gunners…

The departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko has left Pep Guardiola short on the left side of his defence, a situation that City want to remedy before the window closes. They were in favor of Marc Cucurella but refused to pay Brighton’s asking price and any negotiating position they took was destroyed by Chelsea coming in and offering the Seagulls everything they wanted and more.

City are planning to sign Sergio Gómez from Anderlecht but Spanish is seen as a future rather than a quick fix. The Telegraph believes Guardiola is lining up a move for Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney, whose place could be under threat from Zinchenko.

If City were so reluctant to pay £50m for Cucurella, they might not like the answer if they approach Arsenal for a guide price. To even consider selling the Scotland defender, the Gunners are likely to demand a similar amount.

That report of the telegraph leads a more achievable goal for City: Renan Lodi. But even he could be in a similar price range to Cucurella and Tierney as Atletico Madrid prepare to take an interest in the Brazil international.

Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri is also mentioned as a possible candidate, along with Stuttgart defender Borna Sosa.

One per club: Premier League opening day starters who shouldn’t get too comfortable

Barcelona and Juventus are close to finalizing an agreement for Memphis Depay, according to numerous sources. But that isn’t silencing rumors of interest from Tottenham.

Gazzetta dello Sport says Spurs approached Barca earlier this week with a view to making a £15m bid for a player the Catalans are desperate to move. So desperate, they could give him away just to take the last year of his contract out of their payroll.

Sky Sports is a little more coy, reporting that “a London club” is after Depay and they are willing to pay the Dutch striker £200,000-a-week. For his part, Depay is said to be ready to return to England after falling out spectacularly with Manchester United.

Spurs wanted Nicolo Zaniolo. Eager enough to make a £40m bid at the start of the summer, it seems. But now Chelsea are sniffing around the Roma star.

Jose Mourinho is said to have vetoed a move to Tottenham, but the Roma boss could be more excited about the prospect of taking Christian Pulisic in return.

This is the offer presented by Chelsea, he reports soccer market, with both players valued at £42.3m.
