PSG have held positive talks with Marcus Rashford’s representatives and the player’s position on a transfer that would leave Man Utd in the lurch has reportedly emerged.
The 24-year-old looked like a man on a mission in pre-season. Rashford was among a group of forwards who shone in the friendlies and clearly took the instructions of new manager Erik ten Hag on board.
Rashford looked a rejuvenated figure and will be hoping to bounce back from a below par campaign last term. In fact, the five goals he scored last year were the lowest number in a single season of his career thus far.
Rashford has a place in the Manchester United front line if it can rediscover its form. Additionally, the departures of Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata have taken several contenders for minutes out of the equation.
The stage is clearly set for Rashford to prove his worth at Old Trafford this season. As such, it comes as a surprise to see a whole host of outlets reporting that PSG are being made.
Indeed, Sky Sports’ Kavel Solhekol claimed that no less than three different publications claim that PSG want to sign the striker.
“We have been hearing in the last few minutes through three different media outlets in France that PSG are interested in signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United,” Solkehol said.
“This is a story that was reported for the first time The Team PSG are said to be looking to sign another striker and Rashford has been a long-term target for them.”
PSG boss Christophe Galtier recently confirmed that a versatile new striker is on his agenda. Rashford fits that bill being capable of playing out wide as well as centrally.
Rashford’s stance emerges
The original source of the information is the French outlet The Team. ESPN reporter Julien Laurenshe tweeted later The Team’s the report was accurate.
Laurens also tweeted that Rashford is “interested in a new challenge”. The ones in the sky Solhekol claimed to have heard the same.
“A couple of other outlets are saying the player is open to making the move,” Solhekol continued.
“There has been a lot of talk about the fact that he has one year left on his contract. But United have the option to extend it for another year.
“It’s effectively another year so United don’t have to sell him if they don’t want to.”
Rashford’s contract expires next summer, although United have an option for another 12 months.
His contract status is probably a reason why PSG sense an opportunity, although talkSPORT stated that no official contact has yet been made with Man Utd.
Instead, talks have been held with Rashford’s entourage and by GetFrenchFootballNews, it is said to be “progressing positively”.
Would Man Utd really charge?
United are already short-handed in the final third and a Rashford exit would only add to Ten Hag’s early problems.
The Post Office The article noted that PSG are fully aware of Rashford’s affinity for Man Utd. As such, they know signing him won’t be cheap.
That could mean a major bid, and one that could at least make Man Utd think, if their interest is solidified. But whether a sale so late in the window would be a smart move is another matter entirely.
Detailing United’s potential position should a bid be made, The ones in the sky Dharmesh Sheth said: “We are awaiting confirmation of Manchester United’s position regarding Marcus Rashford.
“They are under no pressure to sell with this option to extend his contract for another year.
“Given the problems they have with the forward line right now with injuries [Anthony Martial] and the saga surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo, I don’t know if Manchester United would be in a position to even contemplate losing another of their strikers, including Marcus Rashford.”
