Manchester City have been warned they will give Liverpool the lead in the Premier League title race if they sell Bernardo Silva this summer.
The Portuguese player is heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, despite his well-documented financial problems.
Reports in Spain have claimed that an agreement has been reached between the two clubs, but talkSPORT understands that this is very important.
The £48m extended fee is nowhere near enough for City to consider selling him and the Premier League champions are currently unwilling to entertain any bids.
Silva himself spoke about his future, but left the door open to a possible move away.
Former Chelsea defender and The Sports Bar host Jason Cundy believes City cannot afford to let the 27-year-old go, especially as they have already sold Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling this summer.
Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fernandinho have also left, while Ferran Torres and Sergio Aguero left the Etihad Stadium last season in what has been a changing of the guard for Guardiola’s side.
He said: “There’s no way they can let Bernardo Silva go out of that window. No, I don’t think they can.

“They have a history, and Pep recently came out and said a month ago that he didn’t know if Bernardo would be his player.
“It looked like he was going to go this time last year. I’m not sure they can afford to let another one go.
“If you’re Liverpool watching this, it just weakens them [City’s] team”.
Cundy also had doubts about Jack Grealish and the pressure he would put on the £100m man.
He added: “The season is a very long season. We’ve seen City stumble at the vital stage of the Champions League. That’s where the depth of the squad comes in and you need all hands on the pump.
“I would be shocked if they let him go. I would be absolutely shocked if they decide to let him go.
“They invested £100m in Jack, we know how brilliant he can be. Life can be tough in the city.
“It’s a difficult place to go with the expectation levels. He’s had to learn in a different way with Pep.
“I have no doubt that it will be a success.
“But some parts of last season Bernardo Silva were not played.”
