Manchester United are “very confident” of signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, says Fabrizio Romano.
After yesterday’s 4-0 annihilation at the hands of Brentford, Erik ten Hag’s demand to sign reinforcements with 18 days left in the summer transfer window is likely to have skyrocketed.
The former Ajax boss would probably have hoped the France international would not attend the Red Devils’ evening of redress in west London.
If the former Paris Saint Germain man had seen United’s mauling of Thomas Frank’s Bees, it would have been more than understandable for him to opt for a move to Old Trafford, such is the chaos and mayhem he seems willing to join .
Manchester United ‘very confident’ in signing Adrien Rabiot
Manchester United director of football John Murtough held talks with Adrien Rabiot’s mother and agent, Veronique, in Turin on Friday.
According to Romano, Manchester United want to push for Rabiot as a new round of talks with Veronique will take place soon.
But the transfer guru claimed that all parties involved in the deal are now “highly confident” of getting the deal done.
According to the Mail, Murtough will hold further talks with Rabiot’s mother on Monday over a £15m move.
With negotiations between Manchester United and Veronique continuing, the 27-year-old is highly unlikely to feature in Juventus’ Serie A opener at home to Sassuolo on Monday night.
With eight days to go until Manchester United’s next game, which is an ominous clash against fierce rivals Liverpool, Ten Hag will be hoping the club make progress on new signings this week.
The sooner the likes of Rabiot join the club, the quicker they can integrate with a disillusioned and seemingly confidence-drained team.
Rabiot isn’t the kind of signing that will transform Manchester United’s fortunes, but on yesterday’s evidence, this team needs all the help it can get right now.
