Cristiano Ronaldo reveals Napoli star’s final decision, handing Man Utd key to Victor Osimhen.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Southampton v Man Utd August 2022

A close friend of Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that the Manchester United star will not be moving to Naples amid interest from the Red Devils in Victor Osimhen.

Ronaldo, 37, has shown great focus at Old Trafford this summer amid his desire to leave the club. For several weeks, however, talk of a move abroad has struggled to progress.

The Portuguese wants to return to Champions League football, but Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich, previously considered suitors, have ruled out moves.

More recently, however, talk of a Ronaldo move to Napoli has gained momentum. And United’s interest in the Serie A club’s Nigerian shot-stopper Osimhen has fueled that.

Reports last week claimed United could send Ronaldo on loan to Napoli and pay a large part of his salary. They would then have to pay £100m to sign Osimhen, 23.

However, the Spanish journalist Edu Aguirre, who has a close relationship with Ronaldo, has stated The Chiringuito that the loan agreement will not occur.

The former Juventus man has reportedly decided against a new move to Serie A.

But amid Man Utd’s signing of Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax, manager Erik ten Hag wants a new centre-forward.

Ronaldo decision leaves Osimhen at Man Utd in doubt

And given Ronaldo’s previous potential to go to Napoli, Osimhen was a prime target. Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has been trying to engineer a move between the clubs.

Napoli have set their asking price at £100m, but boss Luciano Spalletti has insisted a slightly lower bid would suffice.

“The club thinks about any situation that is of interest to our players,” said the Italian DAZN. “I say that if a club offers you 100 million euros [£85million]it’s not easy to say no.

“Since I got here, every player has been on the market for the right price.”

Napoli have already sold Kalidou Koulibaly to Chelsea and Arkadiusz Milik to Marseille this summer.

United should attempt a deal for the striker

Despite Ronaldo’s decision not to sign for Napoli, United should go after Osimhen but should try to lower the price.

He looks like an exciting talent and while he’s relatively unproven like Antony, United haven’t been shy about splashing the cash this summer. Antony is actually costing £84m just 22 years old in the Eredivisie.

Osimhen, meanwhile, enjoyed promotion to Lille before moving to Napoli.

He has only gone further in Italy and has Champions League football, including games against Liverpool, to look forward to.

As such, it is unclear whether Osimhen would actually agree to a move to Old Trafford, which hosts the Europa League.

But given the striker’s potential and age, United should consider a move. A £100m transfer seems like a stretch, but if the Red Devils can reduce Napoli’s demands, they would be in for a much better deal.
